They are fighting to recover the holy city of Jerusalem. I think that the english should negotiate with the Saracens and make a deal instead of using violence to get what the English wants. I also think that Jerusalem should belong to the Saracens, since it was theirs in the beginning. I did not believe that fighting is the resolution. I also think that Hosanna makes a bog difference to the story. He is also the reason for the book to continue, after all, he saved Will's life. He made a big impact on everybody.

Stressed out female mushrooms turn to males

Scientists just found out that mushrooms are able to change gender. They all found jobs on the railroads. But then, a few weeks later, they all died. They might have died of cholera or the locals nearby who suspected that the immigrants brought the disease with them. Dr Frank and a team from the Imaculata University was looking for the corpse of these men for the past 5 years. When they pulled the first skull out, they think that it is a 18 year old man called John Ruddy. The corpse of these men were found on Duffy's cut, a part of the Philadelphia and Columbia railroad that the men worked on.

Terrifying Plight of an Afghan Actress.

It happened to Parwin Mushthal. In the middle ages, people were split into ranks. The highest were the kings and the pope. Then the bishops , then the knights. Then the poor peasants. I think that peasants were treated badly, they had to work a lot. Some of the peasants had to work on their lord's land and their own land. The girls were expected to obey their fathers, brothers and other male members of the family. Their father arranges who their daughter will marry. Girls were taught how to be a good mother and a good wife, but nothing else. Then, in those times, it was really dirty, so there was the black death. A lot of people died during those times.

source : http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/black-death-1.jpg

Nitrogen Cycle

In class today, we were doing this activity, where Mrs. Smith made us to be cute tiny little nitrogen atoms. They encountered problems like how they were going to make Brad's face look older. The people who were working on the project, had to guess on how they were going to make Brad Pitt 45 years older. So, they tried different ways to make his face look older. The materials they had to have were money, technology and actors. They tried to painting Brad's face with phosphorous and film it in the dark and then process it in the computers. And then made some change it to look older. They they filmed the bodies of different actor as Ben's body. They use the technology to change Brad's face and replace the head of the actors (as old Ben's bodies), with Brad's older face. They also had to have a lot of the faces of 80 year old Brad's in different kinds of light. They also made it look realistic so that it really looks like it is real. The conclusion of the movie was to put it together.
picture : http://www.reelmovienews.com/images/gallery/the-curious-case-of-benjamin-button-movie-poster_384x515.jpg

Services to the Queen.

The knights serve me. Smash day is a day where we have activities and "missions" to accomplish. It is on the first science class of a new month. For the February's Smash day, we were to make a periscope that enables us to see from below the table into the box of items that we were suppose to identify. We were given 10 sheets of paper, a piece of cardboard, tape and 5 mirrors. We didn't modify our design, we mainly modified the angles of the mirrors. We knew that we had to modify the mirrors because we could not see from under the table to the top of the table. My group wasn't very cooperative, we didn't discuss our thoughts which made it hard for us to build the periscope. We had to keep asking each other what he/she was doing. And the changes that all of us made were logical. I would suggest to the person who will be doing this "mission", is firstly, when you hold a piece of tape for your group members to cut, speak nicely or yell at him to watch what he cuts on. Secondly, discussion is better when it comes before the construction of the periscope. And thirdly, three people should have jobs to do so that the building of the periscope will be finished in time.

The Wildfires attack in the state of Victoria.

It happened in Australia, the state of Victoria. And what happens if ancient Greeks were sick. When I started the outline before the paper, I didn't know what to write and I haven't wrote a paper for a long time. I was a critical thinker and problem solver because I solved the problem of the completion of the outline. An active learner is a learner that wants to learn more. They research more on what they are learning, do more work on their own time. They want to learn more. A critical thinker and problem solver is a person that solves the problem when have one and not not solve it. I learned a lot of things from this project. I learned about Ancient Greece and Rome. What they wore, what they ate, their culture, their beliefs. I learned that they have influenced our present day world, for example, their type of government, democracy. The puppy's temperature should reach an adult's temperature, 101.5'F, at the age of 4 weeks old. When the puppy or dog is excited, the temperature rise 2-3 degrees. If the dog's temperature is above 105'F or below 96'F, the dog needs to see a vet. An adult should have 15-20 breaths per minute. And the dog should have 80-120 heartbeats per minute. If the dog is suffering pain, it will give a clue where it is. When a dog has abdominal pain, the dog will bite or lick the area. And the dog will not want to leave it's bed. The dog might stand hunched or it will get down on it's forelegs but the hind legs will keep on standing because of the pain. Dog will whine or whimper in pain. There are some dogs that can endure pain with vocalizing it's pain. Another clue to pain of a dog is a change in temperament. Dogs, and humans, get mood swings, they can get angry for no obvious reasons.

Leprosy

The leprosy is also known as the Hansen's disease. Leprosy is an infectious disease and had been known since the biblical times. This kind of disease disfigures your skin sores, nerve damage and you get weak slowly. Leprosy is caused by the organism, Mycobacterium leprae. The disease is difficult to transmit. If you get leprosy, the symptoms appear a long time after you leprosy, so it is hard to know what time you leprosy. Children are easier to get the disease then adults. Leprosy is split into two groups, tuberculoid and lepromatous. Both of them disfigures your skin sores, but lepromatous is more severe, it produces big and disfiguring lumps and bumps on your skin. Leprosy will damage your nerve in your legs and hands, it causes sensory loss in the skin and your muscles get weak. People with long-term leprosy cannot walk or use their hands due to the muscle weakness. A number of different antibiotics are used to kill the bacteria.
source: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/112347.htm

Ben Hur- What I learned-part 2.

I learned that if you weren't a Roman, you have less rights. The Israeli soldiers were reported that they are heading south-ward into the Gaza Strip, to Khun Yunis. The United Nations reported that one of their schools were hit by the Israeli hit. The Hamas, who were the group that are defying the Israelies, fired more rockets into Israel on Tuesday. One of the rockets hit the town of Gareda, just 20 miles south away from Tel Aviv. The target that was struck was the farthest north out of the hundred of missiles that had been fired from the Gaza Strip since the Israeli offensive began. Since the Israeli offensive went into the Gaza Strip on Saturday, the Israeli offensive have killed 130 of the Hama's men and only 5 men from the Israeli offensive died of the shell on their tank. The Israeli officials from Washington said that the amount of fired missiles have dropped from 80 on christmas day to 20 per day now. The president of France and the president of Syria met with the leaders of Israel and said that the fight must stop because it is "unbearable". The Israeli were still not ready to cease fire proposal. There are probably 27 million people under different forms of slavery. The Central Intelligence Agency have estimated that there are 45,000 women and children smuggled into America, promised with a decent job, but then only got their passports stolen and had to work in farms, sweatshirt shop or work as maids. But most of the people that were of the 27 million are South Asians that are in debt bondage. The system is described as "Disposable People". Families, children also, are in debts, can be enslaved for generation. Slavery is a growing business because many people are becoming poor. People found that there are a lot of families are willing to sell their children, mostly daughters, for a lot of money to be able to afford useless things like television. The daughters are mostly sold into prostitution. They stay there until they get AIDs and then, are sent back to their village to die in shame. Slavery is illegal but it is still unable to be completely put to an end. The first stage of fighting against slavery is learning that slavery exists and let other people know that slavery is a serious human abuse, and let convince them not to see slavery as a cultural practice.

source:

Education Problems in Taiwan.

I asked my mother what are the education problems in Taiwan, and she replied, that there is too many tests and quizzes in the Taiwan school, then the students there have to attend extra lessons to help them keep up with their school work. Ben Hur was very kind to his servants, because they were not wearing any rags but clothes. Ben does not treat his slaves like slaves, but spoke to them kindly. The commanders are served well. The commander's clothes looks good and they look well fed unlike the slaves. The peasants did not wear clothes that look rich. The Roman ships had oars that made the ships sailed. The slaves had to row the oars. If they were sick, they would be replaced with another slave. In a perfect but not real world, children would have to finish at least the primary education. They have to because, a child will no have the basic skills to function well in the society, one individual failure means the whole society fails. The poem is not a simile. It has no rhyming and no beat to it. It is really sad about the boy and the things that he has go through. I think that his mother has committed suiside because she is always in her room and she doesn't seem to care for her own son. The stanzas of the poem is in short sentences.

'Tis a marvel of great renown!

It blooms on the shore of the Lollypop Sea

In the garden of Shut-Eye Town;

The fruit that it bears is so wondrously sweet

(As those who have tasted it say)

That good little children have only to eat

Of that fruit to be happy next day.

When you've got to the tree, you would have a hard time

To capture the fruit which I sing;

The tree is so tall that no person could climb

To the boughs where the sugar-plums swing!

But up in that tree sits a chocolate cat,

And a ginger bread dog prowls below-

And this is the way you contrive to get at

Those sugar-plums tempting you so:

You say but the word to that gingerbread dog

And he barks with such a terrible zest

That the chocolate cat is at once all agog,

As her swelling proportions attest.

And the chocolate cat goes covorting around

From this leafy limb unto that,

And the sugar-plums tumble, of course, to the ground-

Hurray for that chocolate cat!

There are marshmallows, gumdrops, and peppermint canes

With striping of scarlet and gold,

And you carry away of the treasure that rains,

As much as your apron can hold!

So come, little child, cuddle closer to me

In your dainty white nightcap and gown,

And I'll rock you away to the Sugar-Plum Tree

In the garden of Shut-Eye Town.

Eugene Field

The elements of poetry are imagery, sound, voice and form. The form in this poetry is very neat. Each sentence isn't on one row but several rows. I don't think that this poem is metaphor or a simile. It doesn't really compare the Sugar Plum Tree with anything. It is a story about the tree and what happened when some kids wanted some sugar plum. And there was a chocolate cat and a gingerbread dog who helped them to get sugar plum.
There is rhyming in the poem. I think that this poem is like, not does not express any serious emotions. This poem describes me because i think that this poem has alot of imagination and i like fantasy-ish stuff.

Ancient Greece and Rome: Task B. 2

What were the classes in ancient Greece?
In Greece, the people were split in to two groups, slaves and free people.
